In this photo gallery, you can see several photos. These photos show Team MAX™ bringing Sarah’s custom tiny home to Mountain America Expo Center. What better way to get the word out than a public display? Literally, thousands of people saw Sarah’s Tiny Home at the Salt Lake Home Show 2018!

Special Thank Yous

Lisa & Sarah Sharing Sarah’s Tiny House

Thank you Lisa and Sarah for all of your help and willingness to share Sarah’s house at the Salt Lake Home Show 2018! It was a big hit! – Angus “Big Stew” MacInnes

While anticipating crowds of potentially 70,000 attendees at this weekend’s show to visit the Tiny Home Village, Angus “Big Stew” MacInnes, Founder, President, and CEO of Maximus Extreme Living Solutions™ clearly needed support. “Big Stew” was/is very grateful for Lisa and Sarah’s assistance and support.

Because there was/is nobody better than Lisa and Sarah to share their backstory and personal insights into this wonderful Tiny Home Design, visitors this weekend were able to hear directly from Sarah. Sarah participated in many aspects of her Tiny Home project. Sarah participated in steps of design, participated in construction, and she got her hands into the final finishing touches (literally and figuratively)!

In case you weren’t able to attend this weekend, we encourage those interested to learn about Sarah’s story. Sarah created a Facebook page for just that purpose. (See: Below).

Help Sarah Spread The Word About Her Awareness Project

Because this sensory tiny home design represents a newfound freedom and independence for Sarah, we hope you will all support Sarah’s efforts to both encourage others with autism. Won’t you help *spread the word* about https://www.facebook.com/AutisticTinyHomes/ Sarah’s project?

After you read Sarah’s Facebook page, you will want to see more photos of her Tiny Home. Rather than share those photos here, we instead show the link to the ‘final reveal’: http://maximusextreme.com/max-models/max-sarahs-autistic-tiny-home/

Ski Magazine

As we start off a great 2018, we are humbled. Ski Magazine writer Paul Tolme interviewed Maximus Extreme Living Solutions’ Founder, President, and CEO Angus “Stew” MacInnes. Tolme’s article appears in the January 2018 Issue of Ski Magazine!

When 2018 set into motion, Tiny Homes became the talk of the town. Tolme’s article—juxtaposed against this weekend’s Salt Lake Tiny Home Show 2018 (January 5-7)—serves as a “1-2 punch.” Because it’s hard work getting out news and information in this fast-paced information age, these recent efforts combine to raise awareness and exposure to Tiny Homes.

Sharing “Big Stew’s” eloquent quote from the Ski Magazine article, from an economic perspective, Tiny Homes “[c]reate mobile, comfortable, and affordable housing with low upkeep and little maintenance.”

What We Look Forward To

Team MAX™ is excited to see everyone at the Salt Lake Home Show 2018. Mark your calendar for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (January 5-7, 2018). We can’t help but smile thinking of the anticipated looks on folks faces when they see our Tiny Homes for the first time!

What To Look Forward To

When you visit the Salt Lake Home Show 2018, you will see several MAX™ Tiny Homes featured at the Mountain America Expo Center. This show is going to be amazing! Since the show organizers have fully landscaped around the Tiny Homes, you will enjoy the ambiance of paver block walking paths, a large courtyard, bushes, trees, etc.! Also I’m guessing that the Mountain America Expo Center (formerly South Towne Expo Center) has probably 4-5 acres under roof (so there’s lots to see)!

Meet Team MAX™

One of the highlights for Team MAX™ is introducing Tiny Homes to those who’ve always wanted to experience the livable feeling of luxury in a tiny space. Since we’ve been building and showing our Tiny Homes since 2012, we still think meeting folks, asking “What do you think?” is the ‘cherry on top’ because we’ve not (yet) met anyone who wasn’t surprised in a positive way.

At Maximus Extreme Living Solutions™, our custom tiny dream homes are built on an eight by twenty foot (8′ x 20′) movable steel platform [*Custom/Longer trailer lengths are possible], which equates to a smaller main floor living area; however, a small space does not have to “live” small.

Our custom designs utilize the “shared-space” concept of architecture. Every space has a multiple function, which allows for each space’s functionality to be maximized and to flow seamlessly from one area to another.

Our goal is to provide our clients with a living experience that is a small version of home, thus allowing our clients to take the “essence of home” with them, no matter where they go!

Too, our designs accommodate standard size furniture pieces, and some have built-in pieces depending on the preference of our clients.

Maximus Extreme Living Solutions™ announces the addition of Team Member Tom Hudson, Director of Intellectual Properties

Tom Hudson, Director of Intellectual Properties
Maximus Extreme Living Solutions™

Hey all! Stew here again.

I have some fantastic updates and some cool “teasers” to share with you!

Let’s begin with the updates: Maximus Extreme™ welcomes aboard an incredibly gifted designer by the name of Tom Hudson. Too, Maximus Extreme™ is excited to announce that we have reached out to an amazing consulting firm, and they are doing some incredible work with us.

First, let me begin with our designer. We are incredibly Blessed to have Tom Hudson on staff now as Director of Intellectual Properties. Tom brings to Maximus Extreme™ more than 30 years of real-world experience in computer, technical, and mechanical design. Tom helped to develop Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 video game for Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA), and he established technical drawing protocols for IBM. A few more of Tom’s notable clients have been THQ, the Luxor Las Vegas, and Buffalo Bill’s Resort & Casino, just to name a few. Tom’s portfolio is extensive and amazing to boot!

At Maximus Extreme™, we remain steadfast in our endeavors to design, build, and sell self-sustainable tiny homes that reduce our carbon footprint by harnessing sustainable, renewable natural resources. Our research in these areas of incorporating more green technology into our designs and becoming even more environmentally-responsible while simultaneously moving our company forward…responsibly…led us to a newfound awareness of and appreciation and respect for tenets of U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI). By and though its Nine (9) Bureaus, the DOI protects America’s natural resources and heritage, honors our cultures and tribal communities, and supplies the energy to power our future that manages America’s vast natural and cultural resources, protecting America’s Great Outdoors and Powering Our Future. Maximus Extreme™ is all about that, too.

Our consulting firm. Well, it just so happens that we stumbled upon a U.S. Veteran-owned small business that’s worked with the U.S. Federal Government for years. And—quite fitting for Maximus Extreme™—this consulting firm’s portfolio includes work with the U.S. Federal Government, specifically with environmentally-aware agencies of the U.S. Federal Government that fall under the umbrella of the U.S. Department of the Interior: The Bureaus of Indian Affairs, of Land Management, of Ocean Energy Management, of Reclamation, of Safety and Environmental Enforcement, the National Park Service, the Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation and Enforcement, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the U.S. Geological Survey. This firm is helping us to refine the designs of our product(s) to be more environmentally and socially conscious, while we move forward with building an even better product for you—our valued customers!

As always, great to “see” you again!

Let’s Build Something Together!™

Sustainable Living Using Renewable Natural Resources: Solar Power | More Affordable Than You May Think!

LauraMLavoiePVPanel

QUESTION(S) FROM OUR FOLLOWERS:
Q: Is Solar Power Expensive for Tiny Houses?
A: On January 22, 2013, Laura M. LaVoie asked and answered that very question. We’ve provided the hyperlink (see above) to her story appearing in @Tiny House Talk.

“We run as much as we can on butane and propane so the only thing that really runs on the solar power are the lights and our computers, including Matt’s massive gaming laptop. And remember, both of us work from the tiny house so we need access to our computers most of the day.” ~ Laura M. LaVoie

The definition of “off-the-grid” is (relatively) straightforward:
The term off-the-grid (OTG) or off-grid refers to living in a self-sufficient manner without reliance on one or more public utilities. See: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Off_grid

Why the caveat of “relatively”? The translation (or application) of the meaning of “off-the-grid” (OTG) is different for each tiny home. Why? Because each of you has unique requirements based on your individual living situations, the meaning that you apply to the definition of “off-the-grid” will (likely) not be the same as your fellow tiny home enthusiasts.

Looking back over time, Megan Phelps, contributing editor for MOTHER EARTH NEWS took on the task of answering the question, What Does Living “Off the Grid” Mean? on August 6, 2008 (Yes, the article is 5 years and 6 days old, but we submit it’s still just as relevant today).

Phelps’ article revealed examples of two meanings: one in Ontario (off-grid systems, circa 2008), the other in Topeka, Kansas (a grid-tied system circa 2006). Phelps’ article also shared a valuable resource (if you’ve not yet settled on what’s comfortable for you) to learn more about the “off-the-grid” lifestyle. You will need to send an email to AskOurExperts@MotherEarthNews.com to obtain a copy of Living Off Grid: A Digital Resource for Modern Homesteading, a CD with more than 100 MOTHER EARTH NEWS articles about modern homesteading.

The bottom line? Choosing renewable energy is not a ‘new concept,’ not by any means. However, over the years, technology has springboarded the development of possibilities to make the decision to power your tiny home with renewable energy a uniquely rewarding one.

At Maximus Extreme™ Different By Design means that we accommodate and incorporate your unique requirements into your design.

Maximus Extreme™ is always looking to capture innovative ways to incorporate renewable natural resources into the self-sustainable living spaces we call our “Tiny Homes on Steroids” to get you as “off-grid” as you define it.

Higher R-Values with RAY-CORE™ Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs)

MAX_RAY-CORE_SIP_INSTALL

QUESTION(S) FROM OUR FOLLOWERS:
Q: Why does Maximus Extreme™ use RAY-CORE™ Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs) in our Tiny Home designs?

RAYCORElogo(Transparent)
RAY-CORE_SIP_Thicknesses

RAY-CORE™ Panel R-Values
As with any insulator (cellulose, fiberglass, polyurethane, and polystyrene a.k.a. EPS or XPS,) when the air temperature drops the R-Value increases. As the air temperature rises the R-Value decreases. It is important that when you see an R-Value you know at what temperature the product was tested. The apples to apples R-Value ASTM C518 standard comparison is 75°F. Read more: R-Value curve test data; See also: U.S. Department of Energy (Real R-Values) 3.5″= R26 @ 50°F 5.5″= R42 @ 50°F 7.25″= R52 @ 50°F (See: http://energy.gov/energysaver/articles/insulation-materials; See also: http://energy.gov/energysaver/articles/tips-insulation

RAY-CORE_SIP_Panel

Why is RAY-CORE™ so Smart?

  1. Easy to use (Do-It-Yourself Friendly)
  2. No special design or engineering necessary
  3. Exceeds or meets all codes
  4. Affordable (on avg. only $1,350.00 more than fiberglass)
  5. Extremely lightweight (no cranes necessary)
  6. Decrease utility bills by 40%

Quote from 1931 . . . Sustainability: Apparently Not A ‘New’ Concept After All?

We should be using Nature’s inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide.” ~Thomas Alva Edison, 1931

At Maximus Extreme™ we build our tiny homes as self-contained housing units, not only to withstand the extreme elements and harsh conditions that Mother Nature can dole out, but we also ‘build in’ quality by design.

We take pride in our craftsmanship, and we take pride in the fact that our tiny homes incorporate sustainable elements and a low energy profile.

We have elected to install either composting or incinerating toilets in all of our homes; these toilets have a zero load factor on any municipality.

At Maximus Extreme™, we are always looking into new ways to harness Nature’s inexhaustible sources of energy.
