Awesome Folks Behind The Scenes

As the saying goes, “it takes a village.” With heartfelt thanks, there are a few special folks who have, countless times, had the back of MAX™ Tiny Homes. A huge thanks from “Big Stew”!

In the TINY Home world, there is no shortage of HUGE Thank Yous to all the awesome and talented folks behind the scenes. Since Maximus Extreme Living Solutions is no exception, Angus “Big Stew” MacInnes would like to personally and very publicly extend his heart-felt and sincere Thank Yous.

James Lickiss

A special thanks to this Big Hoss, James Lickiss, and his pops for moving our Tiny Homes. Anyone who needs this type of service, please let me know. I can hook you up!

Keith Cravotta

I also want to personally thank this guy, Keith Cravotta. He has been such a huge help to me so many times, I can’t even begin to count the number. He is loyal, kind, trustworthy, hard-working, and generous. I am blessed to have this man as a friend! Thank you so much for everything, Keith, you are appreciated more than you will ever know!

In this photo gallery, you can see several photos. These photos show Team MAX™ bringing Sarah’s custom tiny home to Mountain America Expo Center. What better way to get the word out than a public display? Literally, thousands of people saw Sarah’s Tiny Home at the Salt Lake Home Show 2018!

Lisa & Sarah Sharing Sarah’s Tiny House

Thank you Lisa and Sarah for all of your help and willingness to share Sarah’s house at the Salt Lake Home Show 2018! It was a big hit! – Angus “Big Stew” MacInnes

While anticipating crowds of potentially 70,000 attendees at this weekend’s show to visit the Tiny Home Village, Angus “Big Stew” MacInnes, Founder, President, and CEO of Maximus Extreme Living Solutions™ clearly needed support. “Big Stew” was/is very grateful for Lisa and Sarah’s assistance and support.

Because there was/is nobody better than Lisa and Sarah to share their backstory and personal insights into this wonderful Tiny Home Design, visitors this weekend were able to hear directly from Sarah. Sarah participated in many aspects of her Tiny Home project. Sarah participated in steps of design, participated in construction, and she got her hands into the final finishing touches (literally and figuratively)!

In case you weren’t able to attend this weekend, we encourage those interested to learn about Sarah’s story. Sarah created a Facebook page for just that purpose. (See: Below).

Help Sarah Spread The Word About Her Awareness Project

Because this sensory tiny home design represents a newfound freedom and independence for Sarah, we hope you will all support Sarah’s efforts to both encourage others with autism. Won’t you help *spread the word* about https://www.facebook.com/AutisticTinyHomes/ Sarah’s project?

Ski Magazine

As we start off a great 2018, we are humbled. Ski Magazine writer Paul Tolme interviewed Maximus Extreme Living Solutions’ Founder, President, and CEO Angus “Stew” MacInnes. Tolme’s article appears in the January 2018 Issue of Ski Magazine!

When 2018 set into motion, Tiny Homes became the talk of the town. Tolme’s article—juxtaposed against this weekend’s Salt Lake Tiny Home Show 2018 (January 5-7)—serves as a “1-2 punch.” Because it’s hard work getting out news and information in this fast-paced information age, these recent efforts combine to raise awareness and exposure to Tiny Homes.

Sharing “Big Stew’s” eloquent quote from the Ski Magazine article, from an economic perspective, Tiny Homes “[c]reate mobile, comfortable, and affordable housing with low upkeep and little maintenance.”

What We Look Forward To

Team MAX™ is excited to see everyone at the Salt Lake Home Show 2018. Mark your calendar for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (January 5-7, 2018). We can’t help but smile thinking of the anticipated looks on folks faces when they see our Tiny Homes for the first time!

What To Look Forward To

When you visit the Salt Lake Home Show 2018, you will see several MAX™ Tiny Homes featured at the Mountain America Expo Center. This show is going to be amazing! Since the show organizers have fully landscaped around the Tiny Homes, you will enjoy the ambiance of paver block walking paths, a large courtyard, bushes, trees, etc.! Also I’m guessing that the Mountain America Expo Center (formerly South Towne Expo Center) has probably 4-5 acres under roof (so there’s lots to see)!

Meet Team MAX™

One of the highlights for Team MAX™ is introducing Tiny Homes to those who’ve always wanted to experience the livable feeling of luxury in a tiny space. Since we’ve been building and showing our Tiny Homes since 2012, we still think meeting folks, asking “What do you think?” is the ‘cherry on top’ because we’ve not (yet) met anyone who wasn’t surprised in a positive way.

Since we’ve been building custom tiny dream homes since 2012, MAX™ Tiny Homes has learned a thing or two. We’ve learned that Kitchen—along with bathrooms—are probably the two most diverse areas that are found within tiny homes (at least that has been our experience).

When you consider that what customers need and want differ, we have designed custom bathrooms as varied as our clients’ needs and wants.

Because we’re proud of our ability to creatively accommodate just about everyone’s unique needs, we share just a few photos of some custom tiny dream home bathrooms that we have designed and built over the years.

If you want to see what it looks like standing in the kitchen of our Victorian Prepper™, then you can do so. If you want to take a look and see (up close) what the ceiling tiles look like, you can do that, too!

You can even stand in the shower and get a feel for what living in a tiny home is really like.

This virtual walk-through is the closest thing, next to actually being there!

As far as I know, we are the only company that has put this technology to use. This is our first crack at it, and I would love any feedback that any of you would be willing to offer.

Also, please feel free to share the virtual tour with your friends; we’d love to hear their opinions as well.

The best way I can think to describe this (our first virtual tour), is a combination of Google® Earth™ meets Gulliver’s Travels!

Our service provider for this new virtual tour technology is a local company called Home Scans, and we are looking forward to utilizing their services!

Thanks for checking this out, and I hope that you enjoy the experience!

At Maximus Extreme™ Tiny Homes, our custom tiny dream homes are built on an eight-by-twenty-foot (8′ x 20′) movable steel platform [*Custom/Longer trailer lengths like the 340 sq ft, triple-axle Steampunk Adventure Home], which equates to a smaller main floor living area; however, a small space does not have to “live” small.

Our custom designs utilize the “shared-space” concept of architecture. Every space has a multiple function, which allows for each space’s functionality to be maximized and to flow seamlessly from one area to another.

Our goal is to provide our clients with a living experience that is a small version of home, thus allowing our clients to take the essence of home with them, no matter where they go!

Too, our custom designs accommodate standard size furniture pieces, and some have built-in pieces depending on the needs, preference, and requirements of our clients.

Tiny House Nation Adds Greg Dewey

Tiny House Nation Adds Greg Dewey

We appreciate all Greg has done for Maximus Extreme™ Tiny Homes

Best Wishes & Good Luck, Greg!

If you haven’t already heard/read the news, Maximus Extreme™ Tiny Homes’ Master Carpenter Greg Dewey will be joining Tiny House Nation. Greg’s been a Blessing to us here at Maximus Extreme™ Tiny Homes. Greg’s time and talents have touched just about every aspect of each and every one of our designs.

Our MAX™ clients have benefit of seeing Greg’s talents on a national scale via Tiny House Nation, and they can now  proudly claim, “Greg helped make my Tiny Home Dream a reality!

Greg is about the best brother-in-law anyone could ask for; I had the best of all worlds, because Greg’s been part of the MacInnes family as well as a great partner at Maximus Extreme™ Tiny Homes, too!

Aside from Greg Dewey being our own amazing, master carpenter and my brother-in-law, we have been fortunate to have Greg on staff since day one, and we are really Blessed to have such a talented craftsman on our team. Recently, Greg started his own company to showcase his design and carpentry skills. Greg’s making himself available for custom work and design (and his business is booming)!

We at Maximus Extreme™ Tiny Homes feel fortunate to be able to offer “Made by Dewey” products to our customers! I just wanted to give some public recognition to Greg and tell him thanks for all that he does at/for our company!

By the way, you should heck out the cool Adirondack chairs, each made from a single shipping pallet. Greg has also made a bed frame for his daughter (my niece) as a wedding present. This amazing gift is also made from recycled pallets! Check out all the photos on Greg’s Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/MadeByDewey/photos_stream

Travel Trailer Versus Tiny Home?

Travel Trailer Versus Tiny Home?

NoComparisonReally(FNL1)

Q: What Are The Differences Between A Travel Trailer Versus A Tiny Home?

A: Sometimes, the answer is in the question. In this case, there’s really no comparison….

The differences…from A-Z:

  • Attitude (What do you want your Dream Tiny Home to say about you?)
  • Bed configurations (MAX™ Dream Tiny Homes offer many creative solutions, depending upon your needs and requirements!)
  • Creature Comforts (MAX™ Dream Tiny Homes can include as many or as few as you like!)
  • Design (We can accommodate your Dream Tiny Home, limiting you to only your imagination, budget, and the laws of physics!)
  • Energy-Efficient (We incorporate the latest commercial & residential best construction practices & products!)
  • Fully Customizable (MAX™ Dream Tiny Homes accommodate your needs, requirements, and specifications!)
  • Green. Your MAX™ Dream Tiny Home can be designed to incorporate many Green building products and LEED components!
  • HVAC? Yes, we can heat and cool your Dream Tiny Home very efficiently!

MAX™ Q&A: A question about noise…

Q&A

Q: How do you ‘sound-proof’ a Tiny Home?

At MAX™ Tiny Homes, we receive many interesting comments and questions. Most folks ask questions “off-line.” Perhaps they are shy? Perhaps they don’t want to ask a silly question? (BTW, we subscribe to the philosophy that there’s no such thing as a ‘silly’ question, except the one that is never asked.) Anyway, sometimes we feel it important to ‘share’ some of these questions (and our answers) with our Tiny Home fans/followers. This is one of those times.

Although we don’t have all the facts; that is, we don’t know ALL the reasons behind this inquiry (e.g., is this request for ‘noise control’ perhaps based on a need for a quiet backyard-based “shedquarters” or remote/satellite/mobile business office; for a backyard/remote/mobile recording studio; or for a true get-a-way to meditate, perhaps for medical reasons like migraines or simply to de-stress?), we have to start somewhere with making assumptions in order to provide any type of meaningful answer.

the-noise-pollution-ecosystem-how-noise-pollution-effects-the-environment-infographic_5175a25bad9b3

Our assumption(s): Let’s assume (if nothing else for ease of argument’s sake) that the conceptualized Tiny Home will be (mainly) situated in a normal, residential area. Therefore, the ‘normal’ residential sound levels of some occasional vehicle traffic, some kids playing nearby, and some occasional yard maintenance (e.g., lawnmowers, leaf blowers, etc.) will occur, and you want an exceptionally quiet Tiny Home (for relaxation, rest, productivity, etc.).

RAY-CORE_SIP_Panel RAY-CORE_SIP_Thicknesses

Q: Do Structural Insulated Panels or SIPs block sound transmission?

A: Yes and No. The sound resistance of a SIP wall depends on the thickness of the gypsum drywall applied, the exterior finish applied, and the thickness of the insulating foam core that is used. SIPs are especially effective at blocking high frequency noise and most homeowners notice the quiet comfort of a SIP home. However, low frequency sounds are not as effectively stopped by a SIP building envelope.

So here’s one approach: Your Tiny Home design could incorporate 6-1/2 inch Structural Insulated Panel (or SIP) walls, with a layer of ½” or 5/8” Quiet-Rock™ or similar noise-reducing gypsum board designed where high Sound Transmission Coefficient (STC) ratings and acoustic management is needed on the walls, using Green Glue® (*Note: One sheet of 5/8” Quiet-Rock™—or equivalent—has the sound deadening quality of something like 10 sheets of standard drywall. Green Glue® is rubbery, thus lends itself to dampening sound, too). You might even consider using Quiet-Rock™—or equivalent—and Green Glue® on the ceiling, too, to further reduce sound penetration. GGDist

The exterior finish: Your Tiny Home design could also incorporate James Hardie® Fiber Cement Building Products (either HardiePlank® Lap Siding, HardieShingle® Siding, or HardiePanel® Vertical Siding).

James Hardie® Fiber Cement Building Products have earned the seal of approval from customers, building experts, and industry publications…even the Good Housekeeping® Seal.

good-housekeeping-v2

Although traditionally more expensive (and heavier) than typical exterior finishes (e.g., vinyl, wood, or OSB), James Hardie® Building Products offer superior results in many areas (e.g., rot resistance, durability, weather resistance, etc.)(See: James Hardie® Website

), the James Hardie® Fiber Cement would provide a dense outer layer, which would help abate sound transmission, too.

The windows: Another issue that must be dealt with is the choice of windows for your Tiny Home. Windows transmit quite a bit of sound. Triple-pane windows, or windows specifically made to suppress noise, may be needed, too.

The bottom line? We at MAX™ Tiny Homes love a good challenge. We share with all of our potential customers that they are limited only by their imagination, their budget, and the laws of physics!
